Abstract
The feasibility of integrating heuristic knowledge with numerical tools using the `KBASE´ knowledge-base expert system shell to automate the selection and the design of foundation for land-based structure is reviewed. The approach and the methodology of organising knowledge in the development of a knowledge-based program is discussed. An expert system SOFT, which is based on these principles, is being developed at the Nanyang Technological Institute in Singapore
