Abstract :
Governments are pumping billions into economies to fend off depression, but how can fibre optics and better broadband stimulate an entire continent. The author looks at Australia´s network initiative. In a move that will transform Australia´s telecommunications, in April this 2009, the Australian government unveiled an ambitious US$34bn project to extend super-fast fibre-optic broadband across the country.
