Abstract :
The finite-element technique has been used to determine the effects of the well shape on the propagation characteristics of symmetric multiple-quantum-well (MQW) waveguides. An error function was used to describe the modified refractive index profile modification due to thermally induced interdiffusion of the well-barrier layers. The results show that the number of modes and their propagation constants vary with the extent of the interdiffusion.<>
