Abstract :
Based on minimising the mean absolute difference (MAD) and considering the correlation between a pixel and its eight neighbouring pixels, the author proposes a new method for generating bit planes in block truncation coding (BTC). Compared to BTC or absolute moment BTC, the new algorithm removes the raggedness of edges and provides better reconstructed images
