Scanning the issue

This issue marks the beginning of the second year of publication for IEEE Circuits and Systems Magazine. As part of our continuing effort to improve the magazine, we begin in this issue a classified advertising column starting on p. 30. In addition, we have three excellent articles. The first, by Schmalzel, Hein, and Ahmed, presents a tutorial discussion of a ROM table look-up digital filter. The paper describes the dedicated-hardware digital filter in sufficient detail that one could easily implement the structure using off-the-shelf hardware. The second article, by Lim and Medley discusses microprocessor implementation of an optimization program for synthesis of RC high-pass ladder networks. Circuits with maximum gain and minimum total capacitance can be obtained using the program. The third article in this issue by Lim and Lee presents a high-speed algorithm for designing optimized doubly-terminated RC ladder networks.
