Abstract
Engineers must learn to promote themselves, and universities should teach commerce alongside engineering, if British engineers are to emulate their continental European counterparts by becoming managing directors. British engineers, have many of the skills required of a managing director of a wide range of businesses-not just those related to manufacturing. The renaissance of the general management engineer is long overdue. The author briefly discusses the attributes and abilities needed to become a managing director.
