Abstract :
An optical gain as high as 30 dB is obtained at 1.5354 mu m in an erbium fibre amplifier pumped in the 800 nm band. The pump power is 100 mW and the pump threshold is 27 mW. The erbium concentration is 34 p.p.m. and the fibre length is 100 m. The maximum gain reaches 37.5 dB for a pump power of 200 mW. The pump source is a Ti:sapphire tunable laser. The most efficient pumping wavelength region is around 820 nm.
