Chillas, Jr. (by letter): In taking up the discussion of this paper, it is particularly worthy of note that the author has brought out the desirable characteristics of the searchlight arc, since a consideration of these or very similar principles has resulted in a decided improvement in the present standard type of searchlight carbons. While this has not been carried quite so far as has been shown in the Beck lamp, nevertheless, it is quite probable that a wider application will be obtained.
