Abstract
With the help of a polarimetric multilayer model, the change in polarisation of a reflected electromagnetic wave, due to interference effects under the condition of a growing ice layer on a road surface, is studied. From these findings, the parameters for a bistatic fully-polarimetric millimetre-wave radar at 76 GHz are derived. Measurements made in the laboratory, as well as under real traffic conditions, agree with theoretical predictions
