Abstract :
Economic operation of power systems has been an important subject for a long time. Its importance grew considerably when the policies of the oil-producing and exporting countries (OPEC) limited the supply of non-renewable fuels brought to the western world. The subject has developed from using the most economical unit in the very early stages to the presently available non-linear techniques which can consider cost functions, system flows and losses, operating limits, probability of instability and insecurity, etc. There are only a few comprehensive references on the subject and, therefore, this book is a welcome addition to the resources of engineers and scientists interested in power system operation.
