    “Our generation is being called upon to bury the past,” said Léonce Montambault, chairman and chief executive officer of Bell Canada, as he started his keynote address at the 1989 conference of the Canadian Society for Electrical and Computer Engineering in Montreal last September. “In just a few years we have cast aside most of the technologies that served us well in a previous age… and served us well for decades on end.”
