Abstract :
All mechanical structures are subject to deformation, due to fatigue, stress and/or environmental conditions. It is therefore of uttermost importance to monitor the mechanical “health” of critical structures, in order to prevent catastrophic failures, but also to minimize maintenance costs, i.e. avoid unnecessary inspections. The present work hence shows a miniaturized RFID sensor, optimized for good operation on concrete and other “RFID-harsh” environments and able to detect deformations occurring on the object on which it is placed.
