Abstract :
The Board of Directors of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, a short time ago, elected Mr. Oliver Heaviside of Torquay, England, an Honorary Member of the Institute. Although Mr. Heaviside´s fame is based on a long list of achievements, yet his greatest work, for which he has laid the entire electrical profession under a great debt, consisted in the application of his mathematical genius to the solution of the partial differential equation embodying the theory of the propagation of electrical impluses along cables having resistance, inductance, capacity, and leakage. His beautiful solution, first presented before the Royal Society of London in 1885, has become classic because of its simplicity and elegance.
