Abstract :
During the last decade, the power system voltage collapse phenomenon has attracted more and more attention. The phenomenon has been proved to be the reactive power shortage problem. Appropriate reactive power planning can enhance system security and may also reduce system losses. Weak bus oriented reactive power planning for power system security is presented. The algorithm identifies weak buses and selects those buses as candidate buses for installing new reactive power sources to enhance system security. Simulated annealing (SA) is applied to search for the final global optimal solution. Results of applications of the proposed method demonstrate that the method can both reduce the solution space and produce a better final optimal solution
