Abstract
This article emphasizes the fact that when mating a motor to the IGBT PWM ASDs available today, the system integrator needs not only to look at the thermal compatibility of motors and ASDs, but also to evaluate the voltage withstand capability of the motor/ASD system. Several methods of developing a successful system are discussed. Additionally, a system to verify that a machine does not operate in partial discharge under actual field conditions is also discussed
