Abstract :
For more than a decade, the relevance of the “state of emergency” for the environment due to CO2 emissions has been setting the targets for climate action also reflected by the Directive 2010/31 / EU Energy Efficiency, among others. Radio Base Stations (RBS) should meet an energy target, while consumer nodes should become renewable energy generators with the ability to import and export energy to the power grid. This paper studies the feasibility of integrating renewable energy for power feeding RBSs and to enable a zero balance system, similar to the concept applied in energy-efficient buildings. The feasibility evaluations are based on observed statistics of the device failures for a year and over a span of twenty years. Further, we demonstrate the viability of the facility in terms of energy reliability and zero emissions balance, applying the same criteria used in buildings. Synergy scenarios involving buildings, electric operators, and telecommunication stations to achieve 100% renewable energy have been shown.
