Abstract :
Within the context of the printer-publisher relationship, which is a partnership, each needs to develop an understanding of the functional requirements of a journal on one hand and the printer´s capabilities on the other. Jointly, the specifications can be developed to optimize the use of equipment and still meet the publisher´s needs. For properly designed work, the economic breakeven in terms of job size is quite low (no more than two to three thousand copies of a 96-page book) for web versus sheetfed printing.
