Abstract :
The Institute for Scientific Information® (ISI®) is a multinational corporation that provides a wide variety of information services to scientists and librarians throughout the world. Included are the Science Citation Index®, Current Contents®, and others which depend on sophisticated computer processing for timely production. This paper describes how certain information elements are extracted from each journal article and processed through the ISI system. Examples are given of how recent computer technology has been applied to keep ISI services cost-effective as well as to improve their quality.
