Abstract :
The problem of flexible access to a wide variety of computing services from a number of terminals is considered. A design for a micro-processor (6802) controlled switcher is presented. The prototype unit is capable of supporting up to 64 simultaneous full duplex communications each at 9600 baud. The design provides for expansion to a maximum of 256 simultaneous communications at individual rates not exceeding 9600 baud and the aggregate not exceeding 0.62 Mbaud. The performance of the prototype over the first two years of its operation is described.
