Abstract :
The paper analyzes the inertial response of a fixspeed wind turbine generator through simulation and theoretical studies. Massive integration of wind power causes various concerns in a power system; one of the concerns is a decrease of system inertia. Although a certain level of inertial response is expected for a fix-speed wind turbine generator, thorough analyses have not been done on the response. This paper examines the output fluctuations of the generator responding to frequency fluctuations of a power system. The study is carried out through both simulation and theoretical analyses. With a model consisting of induction generator and drive train submodels, simulation studies are carried out while changing the relevant parameters of a wind power plant such as inertia constant. In addition to that, a transfer function of a fix-speed generator is derived for the inertial response to understand the phenomena.
