Abstract :
The attachment and detachment rates for the reaction CO2+e-&lrarr2;CO2- were determined in liquid 2,2-dimethylbutane (DMB) and 2-methylbutane (MB) (isopentane) as a function of temperature. In DMB both forward and reverse rates were measured over the range 14 to 45°C, while in MB only the forward reaction was observed over 0 to -73°C. The rates and equilibrium constants were compared with those determined in other solvents, and the factors which influence these quantities in solutions are discussed
