Abstract
60 years have passed since Kamerlingh Onnes discovered that if pure mercury was cooled, using liquid helium, its electrical resistance progressively decreased until it disappeared abruptly at a temperature of 4·15 K. However, it is only within the last decade that this discovery of the phenomenon of superconductivity has assumed technological importance
