Abstract :
Electrical engineers are becoming increasingly involved in joint ventures with colleagues from the medical profession. Some aspects of this collaboration are well known and of long standing. For example, the highvoltage man made this contribution in the field of radiotherapy. The electronics man has used his skills in producing a whole range of medical instrumentation¿from electrocardiograph and electroencephalograph machines for patient monitoring to cardiac pacemakers, which have successfully extended patients´ lives for many years.
