Abstract
This paper studies the programmability of an eNodeB and its implication on positioning the SON functions. It proposes to extend the SDN controller layer with a mediation layer to manage a programmable eNodeB. We mainly focus on understanding the potential interest in having an “open” eNodeB and the range of possible scenarios to move its internal component into the SDN layers and how this impacts the SON functions positioning.
