Abstract
Following Hydro-Quebec´s purchase of a prototype of a static compensator with thyristor-controlled inductance, a series of system tests were made at the Rimouski station to test its dynamic functioning. The results of these tests are given under different aspects with the help of readings taken on the site. To begin, a line shutdown at 230 kV familiarizes with the operation of the compensator in the system. Its dynamic reaction is then compared with that of a synchronous compensator. Then three short circuits are analyzed, one far away and low current, the others directly applied to the 230 kV rod at the station. Finally, the results of a harmonic study are given in the form of TIF, IT and harmonic distortion factors.
