Abstract
Integration of photonic switching and coherent transmission was studied. A photonic space-division (SD) switching system with a line capacity exceeding 500 is expected, taking advantage of the receiver sensitivity improvement and crosstalk rejection capability of coherent optical detection. SD switching experiments in a 100 Mbit/s optical FSK transmission system were carried out with a LiNbO3 photonic switch matrix. The crosstalk component was shown to be rejected by introducing channel separation greater than 3 GHz
