Abstract
A new construction of balanced codes with minimum distance 4 is presented. The idea is to add constant-weight redundant bits with minimum distance 4 to the modified information bits by using Knuth´s method (1986). It is shown that the construction improves the information rates of previously known constructions. The improvement to the proposed code is also discussed
