Abstract
The guiding characteristics of a rectangular-shaped metallic groove partially loaded with dielectric are investigated theoretically. It is shown that channel plasmon polaritons sustained by this groove can exhibit simultaneously subwavelength field confinement and relatively long propagation length at telecom wavelengths. A physical picture of such channel plasmon polaritons is provided with the effective index method.
