Abstract :
This paper discusses how an innovative approach allows controlling the truncation error in near-field antenna characterization. In particular, the method - presented here for the case of aperture antennas and planar scanning - allows estimating the dimensions of the bounded portion of the scanning plane where the field data are collected, the number of field samples to be measured therein, and their locations. Furthermore, quasi-raster scanning is introduced. This allows a very convenient definition of the scanning path connecting the locations of the field-sampling points. The performance of the method is experimentally assessed.
