Abstract :
A 40 Gbit/s TDM transmitter and receiver subsystem pair based on optical multiplexing/demultiplexing has been implemented. Back-to-back receiver sensitivities from -29.0 to -26.5 dBm and Q factors in excess of 18 were achieved. With 560 km of dispersion-shifted fibre (DSF), system Q factors in excess of 8 (BER≃6.3×10-16) were maintained over a signal wavelength range of 2.5 nm
