Abstract
Penalties of only 1.5 dB are measured for 40 Gbit/s polarisation independent wavelength conversion by cross-gain modulation in new, speed-optimised semiconductor optical amplifiers. The excellent performance is achieved using moderate optical input power levels of 5 dBm
