  • Abstract
Y2K showed everyone the importance of systems and software in enterprise success and gave software professionals valuable lessons. The author explains that the IT industry needs to pick itself up from Y2K and exploit the knowledge it gained from upgrading and redesigning its enterprise software systems and practices. If IT professionals want a seat at the strategy-setting table, they need to sustain Y2K-initiated IT house cleaning and software practice improvements as well as learn the real needs of their users: quality, simplicity, reliability, security, flexibility, and profitability
