Abstract
This paper presents a comparative case study of eight telephones from European suppliers and Far Eastern suppliers to establish their suitability for disassembly and recycling. The impact of design changes to improve end-of-life practices on manufacturing costs in Europe and the Pacific Rim has been examined. The opportunities for reuse, remanufacture and materials recycling have been identified so that the maximum of added value is retained
