Abstract
This paper addresses the waveform alteration problem of open-circuit voltage (OCV) and short-circuit current (SCC) of the combination wave generator (CWG) due to the effect of the power-line coupling/decoupling network (CDN). A model of CWG and CDN was implemented in the OrCAD/PSPICE program, and simulations have been conducted in detail on how CDN´s component values affect OCV and SCC waveforms. The results show the time duration will decrease and undershoot will increase for OCV and SCC after CDN is connected to the CWG. The fictive impedance of the CWG will increase due to the effect of the CDN. To meet the requirement of IEC 61643-1, methods of obtaining normalized surge waveforms are discussed and the corresponding drawbacks are also analyzed. Finally, the amendment suggestions about broader tolerances of surge waveforms in IEC 61643-1 after CDN is connected to CWG are presented in this paper.
