Abstract :
A constant amplitude carrier is phase modulated in a special way so that the spectrum contains a replica of the signal to be amplified. The carrier drives an amplifier (to saturation, if required) and the replica, which can equal the peak amplifier power, is selected by a simple filter. In principle, there is absolute linearity. The same technique can linearise a signal path with amplitude distortion
