Abstract :
86 Gbit/s PDM 16-QAM signal generation and transmission over 240 km using an InP optical IQ modulator is demonstrated for the first time. 16-QAM signals were generated with an InP IQ modulator driven at 10.7 GSymbol/s by two sets of 4-level differential signals generated by an arbitrary waveform generator and differential amplifiers. It is confirmed that there was little difference between the BER performance for a back-to-back configuration and that after a 240 km transmission.
