Abstract :
This letter presents an adaptive rational filter for use in smoothing correlated speckle noise in images while preserving edges. The filter adapts to local conditions via point estimates of the standard deviation to mean ratio. The filter´s performance is demonstrated by quantitative tests on synthetically corrupted speckled images.
