Abstract :
Bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) is the most popular method for combining binary coding with non-binary modulation. Thanks to its extraordinary simplicity and flexibility, and despite not being fully understood theoretically, BICM has rapidly become a de facto standard in communication systems. Two decades after the landmark paper by E. Zehavi who pointed out the potential of BICM, this special issue aims to further explore opportunities for BICM design, and to address the challenges associated to its applications. Original contributions are solicited.
