Abstract :
This month, the Historical Corner has two papers. The first discusses the work and life of Giovanni Caselli, who invented the facsimile (fax) machine. The second paper is on Sommerfeld´s solution of the problem of the radiation of a vertical dipole over a imperfect ground plane, which the Prussian scientist obtained in 1909, a little more than 100 years ago. The authors of the second paper are myself and Prof. J. L. Volakis, who does not need to be introduced to the readers of this Magazine.
