Abstract :
The study proposes a practical new formula for calculation of active power and root-mean-square (RMS) value of AC signals, within twice shorter time interval, compared to other methods in standard use. The proposed method offers a significant improvement in computational efficiency over the standard algorithms for calculation, at a lower numerical error. The new concept provides simple calculation of active power by the summation of samples of instantaneous power in time domain without the need for synchronisation. The suggested algorithm was simulated and experimentally tested. The errors related to the signal processing and errors bound were investigated and provided. A processing precision of 0.005% was achieved.
