  • Abstract
This work proposes a liquid-crystal lens based on a dual-frequency liquid crystal (DFLC) and a surface-relief (SR) dielectric structure on an electrode. The proposed LC lens can be controlled between a positive lens (lens power m) and a negative lens (lens power m ) by using the frequency modulation. Additionally, a dielectric effect occurs between the DFLC and the SR dielectric under the frequency modulation, enabling the LC lens to exhibit a much more uniform response-time distribution than a conventional LC lens.
