  • Abstract
    Many efforts have been devoted to system studies involving switched series compensation. While the majority of the interest has focused on thyristor switches, there has also been interest in advanced compensators involving other switching methods. In particular, a GTO controlled series capacitor (GTO-CSC) scheme was proposed by T.H. Ortmeyer et al. (see ibid., vol.8, p.1348-55, 1993). Snubber design and fault performance for the GTO-CSC is developed in this paper, and a feasible circuit design is proposed
