Abstract
Two novel heuristics are presented for the design of maximally decimated nonlinear decomposition schemes. The first dictates the desirable characteristics which a nonlinear operator should have in order to generate good decompositions, and the second is a method for designing them. Simulation results show that such decomposition schemes perform very well in image coding applications
