Abstract
Concerns the CIM-OSA approach for an open system architecture. Modelling with CIM-OSA provides a totally integrated approach to enterprise system design which leads, amongst other things, to the identification of a set of co-operating processes which fulfil business objectives and a set of resources required to execute those processes. The resultant CIM-OSA compliant implementation description (model) is then directly executable on the common services provided by the CIM-OSA integrating infrastructure. This article defines the scope of the problem addressed by CIM-OSA, and introduces the basic building blocks which populate the modelling framework. A simple example is presented to illustrate the practical usage of the building blocks when capturing user requirements
