Abstract :
This paper presents the analysis of the lowest frequency mode behavior in case of index and gain coupled photonic crystal lasers. The 2-D finite photonic crystal structures with circular holes arranged in square and triangular lattice are considered. Two orthogonal polarizations are studied, i.e., transverse magnetic and transverse electric. The analysis is based on the extended coupled-wave equations and compares mode behavior for the wide range of coupling coefficient values showing differences between index and index and gain coupled structures. In particular, the relations between the mode threshold gain, the frequency deviation, and the coupling constants are investigated.
