Abstract
Silicon photonics research published in 2009 exhibited considerable dynamism. Significant progress was made in research on optomechanics, novel phenomena in Bragg gratings, bio-sensing, photo-detectors, and silicon-organic hybrid structures. Non-linearity was successfully exploited for third-harmonic generation, pulse steepening, waveform compression, and high-speed sampling. All three solid states of silicon-single-crystal, polycrystalline, and amorphous-featured.
