Abstract :
A differential phase shift between two orthogonal TE11 waves in circular hollow waveguide may be achieved with capacitive pins which affect one mode and not the other. Representing the two modes in the guide by two equivalent transmission lines and the pins by shunt susceptances, an analysis of an array of pins may be made to determine, as a function of pin spacing, the required values of susceptance to produce a given phase shift ¿ with no reflection. By making use of the transmission matrix giving voltage and current at one point in terms of voltage, and current at another point on the line, the following formulas for a three-element array are derived:
