Abstract
Distribution-free methods are evolved for evaluating whether a unit of a series system is the weakest or the strongest link. The methods are simple & superior to the conventional sign test in terms of their asymptotic relative efficiencies. Type I error & Power functions are derived. The methods are optimum for large sample sizes.
