Abstract :
The current paper presents a conceptual architecture of a distributed train localization solution based on GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) and inertial sensors. The requirements attached to this application are stringent, due to the fact that they need to prove safety of life. Additionally this solution proposes a cost efficient hardware and software configuration which allows deployment on low traffic density lines by partially outsourcing services to the public. Extended use of MEMS(Microelectromechanical Systems) embedded into COTS(commercial off the shelf) products such as tablet PC´s and mobile smartphones, leads to further cost reduction and consolidates the reusability of this solution.
