Abstract
A promising new microcomputer system, developed by researchers at Texas A&M University, College Station, can automatically detect and de-energize downed nigh-power cables that might otherwise thrash about for hours on the ground, creating severe safety hazards. The system is proposed for installation in utility substations, where high-voltage ¿mains¿ branch out into low-voltage ¿feeders.¿
